HIV and hepatitis C virus coinfection: bad bedfellows.
نویسنده
چکیده
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is common in HIV-infected individuals and is responsible for increasing morbidity in these patients. HIV infection increases HCV replication and accelerates progression of HCV disease. HCV infection increases the risk of antiretroviral treatment. HCV genotype 1 is the predominant genotype in HCV/HIV-coinfected individuals living in the United States. State-of-the-art treatment with peginterferon alfa plus ribavirin results in lower sustained HCV virologic response rates in patients with genotype 1 infection than in those infected with other genotypes. Data from studies of HCV infection treatment in coinfected patients are discussed, as are prospects for future therapy. This article summarizes a presentation on HIV/HCV coinfection by Robert T. Schooley, MD, at the International AIDS Society-USA course in San Francisco in June 2005.

Seroprevalence of Human Immunodificiency Virus (HIV) and Hepatitis C Infection In Hemophilic Patients In Iran
Background and Objective: Although transfusion therapy has lead to great improvement in longevity for hemophiliacs, but there have been tragic setbacks especially from transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) .HIV was reported to increase the rate of HCV-related liver failure by 4.2 times. In this study, we aimed to determine the seroprevalence of HIV an...
متن کاملGB Virus C infection in Patients With HIV/Hepatitis C Virus Coinfection: Improvement of the Liver Function in Chronic Hepatitis C
BACKGROUND Previous studies in patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV)/HIV coinfection have shown that the presence of GBV-C is associated with significantly less compensated and decompensated cirrhosis, and an improvement in cirrhosis-free survival. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to describe the effect of GBV-C in patients with chronic hepatitis C and HIV coinfection. PATIENTS AND METHODS We re...

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) has emerged as the cause of the second major epidemic of viral infection after human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) within the past two decades, and coinfection of HIV and HCV represents a growing problem for the future. This article reviews the current evidence on the epidemiology and clinical implications of an interaction between HIV-1 and HCV infection, and the current...

In the United States, an estimated 150,000 to 300,000 people are infected with both HIV and hepatitis C virus (HCV), representing about 15% to 30% of all persons living with HIV infection1,2 and 70% to 90% of injection drug users.1 The longer life expectancy of HIV-infected persons since the advent of highly active antiretroviral therapy has highlighted the effect of chronic hepatitis C, which ...
